As all of us are now realizing that health is indeed the true wealth, the need of the hour is to do our bit to stay safe and protect our families. Each one of us must take the necessary precautions to keep infections at bay. Here’s a guide to help you.

Wash your hands frequently

The World Health Organization recommends you “regularly and thoroughly” clean your hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based rub. This kills the viruses that may be on your hands.

You should wash your hands after coughing or sneezing, every time you enter your house, before eating, after using the toilet, playing with your pet, touching any dirty surface, before and after giving medication to the sick. Wash your wrists, palms, back of the hands, between fingers and under your nails for at least 20 seconds. Washing your hands is one of the easiest and effective ways to fight germs.

Keep a sanitizer handy

If you are out for some reason, and soap and water are not readily available, use a sanitizer to keep your hands clean. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), you should use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 per cent alcohol. Pour a dollop on your palm and spread it evenly all over your hands. Now, rub your hands together until they feel dry.

When to wear a mask

Most of us are now realizing that mask is no longer an accessory, but a necessity. If you are coughing or sneezing, you must wear a mask so you don’t pass on the germs/infection to others. A disposable, surgical mask should serve your purpose. Avoid touching the mask while you are wearing it. Do not re-use single-use masks, also remember to dispose them properly.
