India cases and toll: In yet another record jump in daily cases, India added 49,310 fresh cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours. According to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India’s coronavirus tally has climbed to 12,87,945 with 4,40,135 active cases and 8,17,208 recoveries. With 740 people succumbing to the disease on Thursday, the death toll has gone up to 30,601. In two days, India’s COVID-19 count has gone up by more than 95,000 cases. A total of 3,52,801 COVID-19 tests were conducted across the country on Thursday.

Delhi shows positive signs: With 1,041 fresh cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, Delhi’s tally now stands at 1,27,364. The national capital has 14,554 active cases while 1,09,065 people have recovered from the illness. The positivity rate (number of people who test positive for the infection out of those taking the test) for COVID-19 has declined to 5.7 per cent in Delhi, according to a report by The Times of India. The positivity rate for COVID-19 in Delhi was around 31 per cent in the second week of June.

Andhra Pradesh records daily surge: Andhra Pradesh reported 7,998 fresh cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, a record jump in daily cases. The state’s COVID-19 tally has climbed to 72,711, with 34,272 active cases, 37,555 recoveries and 884 deaths. On Thursday, 61 people in the state succumbed to the disease. After Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh has recorded the highest number of daily cases for a second consecutive day. The state has added nearly 19,000 fresh cases of coronavirus in just three days—more than 25 per cent of the total caseload.

Maharashtra tally continues to climb: A day after recording more than 10,500 cases in a day, Maharashtra added 9,895 new cases to its coronavirus tally on Thursday. With this, the state’s confirmed caseload has climbed to 3,47,502—Spain, one of the worst-hit countries in Europe, in comparison, has recorded 3,17,246 cases of coronavirus. In the last 24 hours, 298 people in the state lost their lives to the virus, taking the toll to 12,854. Russia, another badly-hit country by the virus, has recorded 12,892 COVID-19 deaths. The state (Maharashtra) currently has 1,40,395 active cases while 1,94,253 people have recovered from the illness.

Global corona update: The global tally for COVID-19 has climbed to 1,56,55,557, with 95,36,890 recoveries and 6,36,521 deaths. Of the 54,82,146 active cases, 54,15,892 are mild while 66,254 are critical, according to Worldometer, a website that tracks COVID-19 numbers across the globe.

While the US leads the global table with more than 41 lakh confirmed cases, Mexico and Bolivia are showing alarming surges in cases. In Bolivia, more than 400 bodies, suspected to be of COVID-19 patients, have been found by a special police unit, reported AP. Bolivia has reported 2,300 COVID-19 deaths so far, but the real numbers could be higher. The country has reported more than 65,000 cases of coronavirus so far. Mexico’s coronavirus tally is at 3,70,712 cases with 41,908 deaths.
