Corona Updates You Must Track: More Than 83,000 COVID-19 Cases For A Second Day, Maharashtra Records 18,000-Plus Cases
For a second consecutive day, India conducted more than 11 lakh COVID-19 tests. In a second wave of infections in Delhi, the Capital reported more than 2,700 cases on Thursday
India cases and toll: India recorded more than 83,000 cases of coronavirus for a second day in a row. On Thursday, the country added 83,341 cases to its coronavirus tally, which climbed to 39,36,747, according to the data shared by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
With 1,096 deaths in the last 24 hours, the COVID-19 toll rose to 68,472. India currently has 8,31,124 active cases of coronavirus while 30,37,151 people have recovered from the disease. For a second consecutive day, India conducted more than 11 lakh COVID-19 tests—the number was 11,69,765 on Thursday.
Delhi COVID-19 daily tally surges: Even as Delhi is gearing up for resumption of Metro services from 7 September, the Capital is witnessing a fresh surge in COVID-19 infections. A day after reporting a little more than 2,500 cases, Delhi recorded 2,737 coronavirus cases on Thursday, the biggest jump in 67 days.
The Capital’s COVID-19 tally is now at 1,82,306 with 17,692 active cases. At least 19 people succumbed to the disease in the Capital on Thursday, taking the overall coronavirus toll to 4,500. More than 1.6 lakh people have also recovered from the illness.
Maharashtra adds more than 18,000 cases in a day: After reporting its biggest daily surge on Wednesday with 17,433 cases, Maharashtra on Thursday recorded 18,105 cases of coronavirus. The state’s coronavirus tally rose to 8,43,844 with 2,05,774 active cases and 6,12,484 recoveries. The COVID-19 toll climbed to 25,586 with 391 deaths added to the tally on Thursday. Mumbai's coronavirus case count stands at 1,50,095 with 7764 deaths, while Pune has reported 1,06,428 cases, including 2,654 deaths.
Tracking COVID-19 vaccine progress: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the US, reported Reuters, has asked state public health officials to make arrangements to distribute a potential COVID-19 vaccine to high-risk groups as early as October-end. “For the purpose of initial planning, CDC provided states with certain planning assumptions as they work on state specific plans for vaccine distribution, including possibly having limited quantities of vaccines in October and November,” a CDC spokeswoman told Reuters.
The US, which goes to polls in November, has been the worst-hit country by the coronavirus pandemic. The country has reported more than 63.35 lakh cases of coronavirus, which includes 1,91,058 deaths.
Global corona update: The global COVID-19 count rose to 2,64,71,733 with 69,34,209 active cases, 1,86,64,301 recoveries and 8,73,223 deaths, as per Worldometer. Currently, 60,750 patients are in serious or critical condition.
After restricting entry of pass holders from India, Indonesia and the Philippines, Malaysia has now extended the restrictions to nine other countries, including the US, Britain and France. The travel ban includes countries that have reported more than 1.5 lakh cases of coronavirus. Malaysia has, so far, reported 9,374 infections, including 128 deaths.
