Shiv Sena’s Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjay Raut wants the government to classify eggs and chicken as vegetarian food. This July, Raut urged the Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy) to consider doing just that.

His rationale? The egg-laying ‘ayurvedic chicken’ is fed ayurvedic food, so both should be deemed vegetarian. Also, he said he was once fed ‘ayurvedic chicken’ which, he claims, can cure any illness. He also appealed that the ministry set aside ₹10,000 crore to study these ‘miracles.’

Raut’s appeal found huge support among the Twitterati, which also made a clamour for mutton and beef to be classified as ‘homeopathic’ or ‘mushrooms’.

In May this year, the video of a cow playing football in Goa went viral. Not only did it manage to keep possession of the ball for over a minute (a tall order for even the best football players), it also retrieved the ball after losing it, by charging at the players. We are still awaiting news of its official selection in a football team.
