Love flaunting healthy and shiny hair? But for that you need a good shampoo that hydrates and conditions your hair, from the root to the tips, removes excess oil and dirt from the scalp and helps repair damaged hair. With seemingly endless choices available, it is difficult to zero in on a shampoo that meets your hair needs. Here’s help at hand:

Oily or dry scalp?

If you have a greasy or oily scalp, a shampoo that removes the excess oil (sebum) should do the trick for you. Avoid a moisturizing shampoo because you wouldn’t want any more moisture in your oily scalp. Clarifying shampoos that contain agents like salicylic acid or acetic acid and promise deep cleansing can help. However, if you feel that washing your hair daily with a clarifying shampoo is taking all the oil away, leaving your hair and scalp too dry, you can use it once or twice a week.

For dry and itchy scalp, go for shampoos that come with hydrating and moisturizing formula. Shampoos enriched with natural oils like coconut or almond or tea tree can help retain the moisture in your scalp. If you are fighting dandruff too, it is best to go for a dermatologically-tested shampoo that isn’t too harsh and maintains the pH balance of your hair and scalp.

Curly or straight hair?

If you have thick, curly hair, a moisturizing shampoo can help you nail that smooth look. Those worrying about thin hair, a protein-rich shampoo that adds volume and bounce is an ideal choice.

Brittle and damaged hair needs a nourishing shampoo that can strengthen the mane. Because your hair needs protein for strength, you should look for protein-based or protein-enriched shampoos. Check the bottle for labels like ‘hair repair’ and ‘anti-breakage’.

For normal hair, any balancing shampoo is good that keeps your hair manageable and scalp clean.

For coloured hair

For colour-treated or highlighted hair, shampoos with colour-protecting formula that also moisturize the hair are ideal. Mild, sulphate-free shampoos work well on coloured hair.
