Extremely popular with health enthusiasts all over the world, treadmills are one of the most widely-used fitness machines at home. Here are top reasons why you should invest in one if you still haven’t.

Time saver

With our hectic schedules, long office hours and busy lifestyles, working out regularly can be tough. While finding the will to drive to the gym can be challenging, taking out just 20-30 minutes a day for a quick session at home can help you stay fit. This is where the treadmill can be a lifesaver, quite literally. It’s easy to use and offers you the liberty to exercise anytime of the day or night, as per your convenience.

Variety workout

Even with newer, more high-tech exercise machines hitting the market, the treadmill has not gone out of vogue. Whether you want to shape up or are a fitness enthusiast who is into walking, running, jogging or intermediate training—with this machine you can do it from the comfort of your home. So, no need to brace the storm, run in the rain or navigate the traffic on the road, just switch on the machine and your favourite music and you’re geared for a good run at the comfort of your home.

“While treadmills may seem boring, they can offer a good alternative for exercise, depending on how you use them. There is so much more to treadmills than just ‘push the button and start walking’,” says Dr Adam Tenforde, Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Harvard Medical School, in an article on Harvard Health Publishing. “You can easily vary the speed and incline to focus on specific goals,” he adds.

Health first

A great cardio equipment to keep your body in good shape, treadmill not only helps you target key areas such as quadriceps, calves, glutes, and hamstrings, but also helps build stamina and improve balance. Since you avoid running on hard or uneven surfaces that can hurt your knee and ankle, treadmills are a safer option. “They also can be helpful for people recovering from an injury or surgery, since you can control the speed and intensity, and they are equipped with handrails for added support when needed,” says Dr Tenforde.
