Get Soft, Beautiful Lips In A Few Easy Steps
The low-down on how to fight dry and flaky lips
Who doesn’t like having soft, sensuous lips? But with the season change, chances are your lips are looking dry and dull. Just like your skin, your lips too need daily care to look their best.
Here is the low-down on how to keep your lips happy and healthy.
Dry, flaky lips can be your body’s way of telling you that you aren’t having enough water. Make sure you stay hydrated throughout the day. If plain water is boring, you can add herbal tea, coconut water, and even fruits and veggies with high water content (melon, cucumber) in your diet.
Go for a balm
If you are in the habit of reaching out for your trusty lip balm every now and then, do not stop. But if you are in the habit of licking your lips when they feel dry, stop and try using a lip balm instead.
Since our lips do not have oil glands, moisturizing them is all the more important, and a lip balm will help you keep them soft. Look out for a balm that is creamy and does not irritate your skin. If you don’t have a lip balm, petroleum jelly works too. But if have to step out in the sun, we suggest you go for a balm that comes with sun-protection factor (SPF).
Exfoliate your lips
Slather your lips with a moisturizing balm and use a soft-bristle brush to slough off the dead skin. Stick to exfoliating your lips once a week, doing it more often can cause damage.
For a DIY exfoliating scrub, mix a spoonful of brown sugar with olive or coconut oil. Rub it on your lips for a few seconds. Rinse it off and apply balm on your lips.
If flaky lips are a problem, you may want to go for lighter shades of lipstick, as they are more forgiving than the darker shades.
