Lemongrass

As the name suggests, this oil has a refreshing sweet-lemon aroma, which can immediately lift your mood. Native to South East Asia, lemongrass has been used in traditional medicine for its antiseptic and anti-rheumatic properties.

How to: Light an oil diffuser or use reed diffuser sticks with lemongrass aroma to liven up your living spaces and lift your mood. If you have asthma or a respiratory condition, it is best to check with your doctor before using an essential oil. You can opt for bath and beauty products with lemongrass oil to refresh and rejuvenate your skin.

Eucalyptus

With a strong, slightly medicinal camphor-like aroma, eucalyptus oil is definitely not for people who have a weak nose or are sensitive to stronger fragrance. The oil has anti-microbial properties and works well as an insect repellent too.

How to: You can pour some eucalyptus oil in the diffuser to get rid of insects and mites.

Lavender

Primarily known for its stress-relieving properties, this wonder oil can help soothe your nerves, reduce anxiety and improve sleep. Because of its delicate aroma, lavender oil is also used in perfumes, air fresheners and bath and beauty products. New studies are now looking at the possibility of using lavender oil to treat certain neurological disorders.

How to: For better sleep, rub some lavender oil along the sides of your neck or pour some oil in a napkin and breathe it in deeply a few times (avoid if you have asthma or other respiratory problems). It will help relax your senses.
