How To Find The Right Suitcase For Your Next Vacation
There are some factors you can’t ignore when choosing a suitcase
There is no denying the importance of a suitcase. Whether you are planning a vacation or a ‘workation’, you cannot travel without a suitcase. Some of us also use suitcases to store clothes if the wardrobe doesn’t have enough space.
However, before settling for a suitcase, it is important you do some groundwork. Decide on the size, colour and design that best fit your needs. Check for durability too; you don’t want your purchase to last just one season.
Another factor to consider when choosing a suitcase is—you should be able to spot it in the sea of baggage at airports and stations. Maybe, opt for a bright colour or a less-than-ordinary print?
Hard or soft?
Usually made of leather, nylon or polyester, soft-side suitcases are lightweight and let you squeeze in those extra clothes. Most soft-side suitcases have one or two pockets in the front to store your books or some essentials. Because of their make, you may also find it easier to fit them in the overhead baggage counters. Look for suitcases that are waterproof and stain-proof so that you don’t have to worry about travelling in the rain.
Hard-side suitcases are usually made of polycarbonate, and are better suited if you are carrying fragile items —think glass, ceramic etc. Because of their casing, these suitcases are also sturdier compared to their soft-side counterparts.
Checking the wheels is as important, if not more, as the fabric or material used in making your suitcase. You can choose between two-wheeler and four-wheeler suitcases. While the two-wheelers can roll forward and backward, the four-wheelers can roll 360 degrees. No matter what you choose, make sure the wheels roll smoothly and are properly secured with the suitcase.
Other factors to consider
Can you imagine a suitcase without a handle? Yes, that’s how important a handle is—it should be easy to operate and should give you a firm grip. It should also be strong and durable; with a broken handle, you will find it extremely difficult to carry around your baggage.
Also check if the suitcase you like has smooth and efficient zippers. Most suitcases come with either coil or chain zippers and both have their set of advantages and disadvantages. Coil zippers are usually made of nylon and polyester while chain zippers are made of metal or plastic.
