If coffee is the first thing on your mind as soon as you wake up, then you’re a certified coffee lover. For true coffee aficionados, nothing beats the pleasure of taking in the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. Whether you like it black or with a dash of milk, brewed hot with froth or iced to perfection, with a coffee machine you can make your favourite brew anytime, whether at home or in office. Here is what you should consider while purchasing a coffee maker.

What to look out for

Broadly speaking, there are four types of coffee makers that you can choose from, based on your requirement. They are French press, espresso, single serve and drip. While some machines run on electricity, others can be used manually.

1. Drip machine: This is a classic coffee maker which can brew coffee in large quantities. They are automatic. You add milk and sugar to your brew and you pretty much have your cuppa ready.

2. Espresso maker: If you prefer your coffee really strong and aromatic, then this machine is ideal for you. With an espresso machine, you can enjoy a shot of your favourite brew or use it to make a cappuccino, latte or americano. The difference between a drip and an espresso is in the flavour—a shot of espresso is more intense because it’s more concentrated.

3. French press: One of the most popular coffee makers, this one is super easy to use and the perfect pick for the uninitiated. It’s portable and barely takes any kitchen space. A French press is a cylindrical pot that comes with a manual plunger and a built-in filter screen that presses hot water through ground coffee. You get an earthy brew in few seconds.

4. Single serve: With just a single brew at a time, this machine makes the most precise cuppa. More compact than a traditional coffee maker, it’s easy to use. All you need to do is fill up the reservoir, pop a pod in, press brew and voila, you have a delicious hot cup of coffee ready in no time.

Why get a coffee maker

Other than the fact that you can enjoy your favourite drink any time of the day, purchasing your own coffee machine will save you a lot of trips to the coffee shop—it is cost-effective too. Also, making your own coffee at home gives you the option of using the beans of your choice. You can even experiment with different varieties to craft that perfect cuppa.
