Whether you are planning to go camping or organizing a picnic with family, a portable folding cot can help you get some rest when you feel tired after a long walk or running after your kids. Not just outdoors, a folding cot can be used indoors as well. On a breezy evening, you can open the cot and place it in your verandah or garden and simply enjoy the moment of solitude.

If some guests have suddenly decided to stay over at your place post-dinner and you don’t have a spare bed, your folding cot can come to your rescue. Because they take little space, you can simply fold the cot the next day and keep it in a corner.

Also known as a camping bed, a folding cot is lightweight and easy to carry. If you are someone who is constantly on the move, a camping bed may even be a better option than a permanent bed for regular use. These cots usually fit into a car/van trunk, which makes them easy to carry. You don’t have to spend too much time or effort to set them up—most of them can be assembled the way you unfold a folding chair.

Things to consider

Folding cots usually have a wooden or a metal frame, and the fabric can be either canvas, nylon or polyester. Check for sturdiness and how much load your cot can withstand. Most cots can withstand the weight of an adult. If you plan to take the cot to picnics and camping, keep an eye on its weight because you don’t want to struggle with a heavy cot. If you want extra sleeping space, some cots come with a wider design too.

Finally, a cot should be comfortable so that you can get a good night’s sleep even when you are camping. Some folding cots come with a mattress; you also have the option of placing a mattress of your choice on the cot for extra support. Be wary of wobbly frames because you don’t want the cot to shake every time you move.
