Replacing your morning cuppa now and then with this antioxidant-rich green alternative may prove to be beneficial in the long run. Here are four top reasons why green coffee is worth giving a shot:

1. For those who may be unaware of its existence, green coffee is simply raw coffee beans (the seed of the Coffea canephora plant) before they are roasted and processed. Coffee beans lose much of their biologically active properties during processing. Green coffee is milder in flavour (because it’s not roasted) but more refreshing.

2. Like green tea, green coffee bean extract has caffeine too and contains powerful antioxidants. A new body of research suggests that consuming coffee in moderation may help you lose weight.

3. Researchers are also studying the effect of green coffee on blood pressure. Some small studies have found that the chlorogenic acid (CGA) in green coffee bean extracts may be effective against hypertension.

4. Green coffee is rich in polyphenols which have antioxidant properties. Antioxidant-rich foods are known to be good for skin. A 2017 study published in Bioscience, Biotechnology, and Biochemistry journal found that coffee polyphenols extracted from green coffee beans reduced dryness of skin and improved skin hydration.
