Need to fix a leaking tap or snip wires for electrical repairs? Having your own in-house tool kit saves trips to the garage or other service stations. Your DIY tool kit should have items that should allow you to repair and fix things at the most critical of situations. Here, we list five such tools.

Tapes: Keep a measuring,  a sealing and an electrical tape in your tool kit box. Whether you need to measure a tablecloth or join electrical wires together or seal something, tapes can help in a variety of ways. When it comes to measuring, though, a 25-foot tape is usually sufficient to cover your home-based needs.

Pliers: One of the most important tools to have in your kit is a set of pliers. From cutting wires to removing nails and staples, pliers with a good grip can be a boon for any handyman. There are different varieties of pliers, such as the lineman’s pliers or combination pliers that are used to twist, bend or cut electrical cable wires.

Hammer: A hammer needs no introduction—it is, after all, the quintessential builder’s tool. However, ensure that you get one that fits in your hand comfortably and isn’t too heavy.

Screwdriver: This tool can be used for more than just tightening screws. With the correct set and types, it can be used for activities ranging from opening tins and cans to fixing your audio or electrical equipment.

Drill machine: Keeping a cordless drill machine in your tool box can make the job of drilling holes much easier than using or relying on just manually-operated drills and screwdrivers.

Tip: Include tools such as a builder’s knife, a wrench or a spanner in your kit as well.
