How To Choose Bar Stools That Are Just Right For Your Home

No matter where it is placed in your home—next to the kitchen counter, at the bar or in your balcony—it is one of the most useful and manoeuvrable pieces of furniture. That’s the beauty of a bar stool.

Bar stools come in all kinds of shapes and sizes. Here are some things you must keep in mind when choosing a set of bar stools for your home: 

Size matters

Ask yourself if you need bar stools at all. If the answer is yes, then the next questions are where will you place them and what should be their height. Will they fit in your kitchen or will you have enough space for them next to the bar counter?

Once you have figured out the space issue, measure the height of the table or the counter next to which you will place the stools. Ideally, the seat of the bar stool should be 10-12 inches lower than the bottom of the table counter. There are adjustable bar stools too, but it is better to do your homework before making a purchase. Also, check the width of the stool to ensure you and your guests can sit comfortably on it. 

How many do you need? 

It depends on the size of the kitchen counter or the bar or even the drawing room where you would like to keep these stools. Make sure there is enough space between two bar stools so that the room doesn’t look crowded and your guests can sit comfortably, with adequate elbow room. 

The style quotient 

With or without swivel, with or without backrest, with or without armrest—you can choose a bar stool from a range of designs. You can even get an upholstered bar stool for your home. The choice is really yours. For instance, the ones with a backrest can be used in any part of your house, and not necessarily next to the bar or kitchen counter. If you like hosting parties, swivel bar stools will allow your guests to more ‘informal’. 

Wood or metal? 

Your bar stools should complement the décor of your room and house. If you have wooden furniture in the room, wooden bar stools would be an ideal choice. Similarly, stools made of metal with a chrome finish can go well with a quirky room décor.
