Nobody wants a bad hair day, not even your pooch. Your pet deserves a clean and shiny coat, and for that, you need shampoos that are made for dogs. Many pet owners make the mistake of using their shampoos on their dogs, but please remember that a shampoo that works for you is not necessarily ideal for your pet. The pH level of your dog’s skin is different from yours and you must choose a shampoo that suits its skin. 

The coat 

When it comes to choosing a shampoo for your dog, it is a case of ‘horses for courses’. There are dogs that have lustrous and silky coat and then there are those with a thin coat. If you are the owner of a white dog with a thick coat, you may need a shampoo that will keep it that way. Shampoos are also available for the coarse- and curly-haired ones. So, do a bit of research before you choose the shampoo that is the right fit for your dog. For dogs with a thin coat, go for a shampoo that has conditioning properties and can remove the dust and dirt. 

Flea and tick issues

Fighting ticks and fleas are part and parcel of raising a dog. There are shampoos that claim to take care of these pests hidden in the fur of your dog. Again, you should know the extent of the problem as shampoos can only provide temporary relief. 

How to check odour

If your dog likes playing in the mud, you may want to look for a shampoo that not only deep-cleans your pet but also fights the bad odour. Several shampoos come with ‘odour-control’ properties—after a wash, your dog could smell as fresh as a daisy!
