Choosing A Mixer-Grinder Can Be Tricky. These 4 Points Will Help You
Easy tips to help you make the right purchase for your kitchen
One of the most important and useful kitchen equipment, a mixer-grinder-juicer helps you cut down your kitchen time. You can grind your masalas, mince your meat or make a glass of fresh juice in minutes. However, with so many brands and so much choice available, deciding on the right mixer-grinder can be rather tricky. Consider these factors to choose the one that best suits your needs.
Know Your Usage
Identify your need—whether you require a traditional mixer-grinder or a stand mixer, which comes with more advanced functions such as kneading and whipping. Traditional ones are more efficient for everyday cooking, while stand mixers are great for people who do a lot of baking or are home chefs.
Be Jar Wise
Make sure the model you select comes with at least 2-3 jars of varying sizes to meet different requirements. You may need one for grinding spices to a fine powder, another for making various chutneys and the third one (jug blender) for making shakes and smoothies. Make sure that the jars have a durable body (stainless steel is fine), leak-proof lids and handles that provide a good grip.
Size And Weight
Mixer-grinders come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Before you make a purchase, check their dimensions to ensure you have enough kitchen counter area, without crowding the space. If you’re planning to stow it away in the overhead kitchen cupboard, there should be enough room for you to lift it in and out easily, with every use.
Wattage And Speed
Mixer-grinders with 500- 750 watts are good enough for domestic kitchens. How fast your mixer-grinder works is determined by the RPM or rotations per minute. It is essentially the number of times the blade rotates in a minute. For Indian kitchens, a mixer-grinder with an RPM of 18,000-23,000 is sufficient. Opt for one which allows you to control the speed as per your requirement.
