Who doesn’t like a plush carpet in their living space? As comforting as the sight is, carpets also insulate your feet, which make them ideal for use as yoga mats.

Used mainly for home decor, carpets trap heat, keeping the floor warm and cosy, and also absorb sound. Carpets are traditionally made of wool, but these days, synthetic varieties in nylon and polyester are also available. These are lightweight and less expensive compared to the traditional carpets.

Depending on how intricate the handwoven motifs and embroideries are, different carpets are priced differently. Here’s a guide to selecting the dream carpet for your house:

Choose your fibre

The most important thing that you should consider while buying a carpet is the material. Remember, different kinds of fibre need different treatment in terms of cleaning and washing.

You should choose a carpet or rug that is manageable and is easy for you to maintain on a regular basis. Natural fibres like cotton are usually machine-friendly. Synthetic fibres like Olefin can also handle machine wash but not too frequently. Since it is stain-resistant, cleaning it from time-to-time is good enough. Fibres like nylon and polyester can also be washed when needed but preferably with cold water.

You should also consider the size of the room before making a purchase.

Pick a suitable shade

Decide on the colour of the carpet based on the colour of the floor tiles and the walls of the room where you want to keep the carpet. You could go for solid colours in case your walls are white or of a lighter shade; otherwise, you can go for muted, breezy shades that are minimalistic.

Mind the budget

The price of carpets generally depends on the material used. Be prepared to spend significantly more if you are looking to buy a premium, high-end carpet meant to impress your guests. For simple, day-to-day use, you could go for rugs instead, which are smaller in size, easier to wash, reusable and budget-friendly.
