There are fathers who go the extra mile for their children and then there is Surendra Vyas, a legend. A civil contractor in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district, Vyas threw a party for his teenaged son who failed his class X exams. His reason? "After failing in exams, kids go into depression, a few even commit suicide. I want to tell them that boards are not the end-all and be-all," he told The Times of India. In times of result-oriented competition driving students to despair and self-harm, Vyas' gesture will resonate with those struggling to cope. Dad of the year!

In the past, Narada, the mythological sage, has been compared to the search giant Google and Ganesha's trunk implant to the world's first plastic surgery. Recently, Uttar Pradesh's deputy CM Dinesh Sharma told an audience in Sitamarhi, Bihar, that Sita was the first test-tube baby. As per Valmiki's Ramayana, Sita was found in a furrow by Janaka, her adoptive father. Sharma had earlier said 'Pushpak Viman' from the epics were actually advanced jets. There's more--he claimed journalism started at the time of the Mahabharata, with Sanjaya's commentary of the battle of Kurukshetra to Dhritarashtra equivalent to our age's live telecast. A case was lodged against Sharma for his comment on Sita.

A man in Agra was left devastated after monkeys snatched away his bag of cash (Rs 2 lakh, according to him) outside a bank and tossed bundles of Rs 2,000 notes (it seems Rs 60,000 in all) from the roof of a four-storey building.
