Even in stressful such as these, the kindness of some people knows no bounds. Take, for instance, the immensely humanitarian and faith-reaffirming service rendered by Mary Anitha, a clinical psychologist, to a COVID-19-afflicted couple and their child.
Anitha was teary-eyed when she handed over six-month-old Elvin to his parents on Wednesday. Elvin, or Unnikuttan, stayed with Anitha for a month after both his parents, who are nurses at a health-care facility in Gurugram, Haryana, tested positive for COVID-19. Elvin’s father Eldose tested positive for the infection last month following which the infant’s mother Sheena decided to return to their home state Kerala with the child.
While Sheena was in home quarantine in Kochi, she too tested positive for coronavirus. Told to stay away from the baby, Sheena could not find any family member who was willing to take care of the child. Finally, the district child welfare committee approached Anitha who immediately agreed to take care of the child, according to a report by The Indian Express.
Anitha is a mother to three. All through the month, she stayed in a separate house in her apartment complex while her children delivered the food outside the house. She stayed in touch with Elvin’s parents through video calls. On Wednesday, Sheena collected her child from Anitha after completing the mandated home isolation/quarantine period and testing negative for the infection.

In February, Bhajanpura was one of the worst-affected areas in the Delhi riots. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) first postponed the remaining exams in the riot-hit areas and subsequently cancelled them in the wake of the coronavirus-triggered lockdown.
Despite the difficulties, the sisters, who studied at night (because that was the only time when their locality was peaceful), came on top when the CBSE board results were declared this week. Gauri, who appeared for the class-10 exams, secured 97.67 per cent marks and is the highest scorer in her school, Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya in Yamuna Vihar. Her elder sister Anshika, a student of Hansraj Smarak Senior Secondary School, scored 85 per cent in her class-12 exams.
“My sister and I kept each other motivated during the period,” Gauri told PTI. She has now set her sights on making it to one of the IITs and has started preparing for the entrance exams. Anshika, on the other hand, plans to pursue agricultural engineering from Banaras Hindu University. May the two sisters cross these hurdles too.
