BENGALURU HAS FREQUENTLY been in the news over not being environment-conscious enough, but no one can accuse it of not being safety-conscious. The Bengaluru Traffic Police recently sent a notice to M.S. Patil, a Ministry of Defence spokesperson, asking him to pay a fine (Rs100) for not wearing a helmet. Except that MrPatil doesn't use a motorcycle! Since when did not wearing a helmet in a car become a crime? They've been watching too much Formula One.

THERE'S A NEW UP in UP: a urination penalty. The state road transport corporation (UPSRTC) has decided to post CCTV footage of rogue public urinators on YouTube. A part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan (campaign), this is supposed to spread awareness about the health hazards of peeing in the open. No prizes for guessing why the videos have gone viral.
