Places of worship, malls, and restaurants will open Monday onwards as the second phase of unlock 1.0 begins. The gradual resumption of economic activity is accompanied by a surge in cases of COVID-19 across the country. India crossed the 2.5-lakh mark while Maharashtra surpassed China in terms of total COVID-19 cases reported so far. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has gone into self-quarantine after developing sore throat and fever and will get himself tested for COVID-19 on Tuesday.

Restaurants, places of worship, malls to open: As part of unlock 1.0, places of worship, malls and restaurants will open in most states on Monday. While restaurant kitchens were already allowed to run takeaway services, Monday will see them opening their doors to customers for dine-in as well, and run at 50 per cent occupancy. In places of worship, devotees have to wash their hands and feet with soap and water before entering the premises.

India COVID-19 cases at 2.5 lakh: On Monday, India’s coronavirus count rose to 2.56 lakh cases with 1.25 lakh active cases, 1.24 lakh recoveries and 7,135 deaths. A total of 9,983 fresh cases and 206 deaths were reported across the country in the last 24 hours. Along with the rise in inter-state travel, the cases that are being reassigned to states have also surged to 9,189—there is no update on recoveries and deaths under this category. Lakshadweep is the only UT to not have reported a COVID-19 case so far. Sikkim, which had zero coronavirus cases a few weeks ago, now has seven active cases.
