As Lockdown 4.0 is nearing an end, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to address the nation on Sunday, 31 May, to discuss the exit strategy for the next phase. India’s coronavirus count, however, is showing a steady increase with 6,566 new COVID-19 cases being reported in the last 24 hours. Nearly 200 people succumbed to the infection during the same period.

Lockdown 5.0 guidelines soon? Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday can share the blueprint for the next stage of the graded exit plan from 1 June. An India Today report quoted sources in the Ministry of Home Affairs as saying that Lockdown 5.0 will largely focus on 11 cities—Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Surat, Ahmedabad, Pune, Kolkata, Indore, Jaipur, Thane and Bengaluru—that account for 70 per cent of the total coronavirus cases in the country. Places of worship and gyms may be allowed to reopen in the next phase.

India cases and toll: The surge in coronavirus cases continues as India’s total tally has gone up to 1,58,333 cases, according to the latest data shared by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Thursday morning. India reported 6,566 fresh cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours while 194 people succumbed to the infection during the same period, taking the toll to 4,531. The number of recoveries stands at 67,691. After Brazil, the daily cases of coronavirus are growing at the fastest rate in India.
