The cases of coronavirus in India have breached the 2-lakh mark on Wednesday. The country reported nearly 9,000 fresh COVID-19 cases and 217 deaths in the last 24 hours. While economic activities have resumed in most parts of the country, Maharashtra, especially Mumbai, is getting ready to face Cyclone Nisarga, which is likely to make landfall Wednesday afternoon. The coastal districts in Gujarat are on high alert too.

India breaches 2-lakh mark: In yet another grim milestone for the country, India’s COVID-19 tally stands at 2.07 lakh cases. The number of active cases has surged to 1,01,497 while the toll has risen to 5,815 on Wednesday morning. The country reported 8,909 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, as per the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

The silver lining is the corresponding rise in recoveries—more than 1 lakh COVID-19 patients have recovered from the illness. India’s recovery rate stands at 48.07 per cent.

Among states, Haryana has recorded a spike in coronavirus cases with the state registering 296 fresh cases on Tuesday, its single-biggest surge in a day. Gurgaon and Faridabad have reported 160 and 26 fresh cases, respectively.

Where Delhi stands: The national capital has been reporting a steady surge in COVID-19 cases— it added 1,298 new cases in the last 24 hours. Delhi’s total case count stands at 22,132 with 12,333 active cases, 9,243 recoveries and 556 deaths.
