India breaches 2-lakh mark: In yet another grim milestone for the country, India’s COVID-19 tally stands at 2.07 lakh cases. The number of active cases has surged to 1,01,497 while the toll has risen to 5,815 on Wednesday morning. The country reported 8,909 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, as per the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The silver lining is the corresponding rise in recoveries—more than 1 lakh COVID-19 patients have recovered from the illness. India’s recovery rate stands at 48.07 per cent.
Among states, Haryana has recorded a spike in coronavirus cases with the state registering 296 fresh cases on Tuesday, its single-biggest surge in a day. Gurgaon and Faridabad have reported 160 and 26 fresh cases, respectively.
Where Delhi stands: The national capital has been reporting a steady surge in COVID-19 cases— it added 1,298 new cases in the last 24 hours. Delhi’s total case count stands at 22,132 with 12,333 active cases, 9,243 recoveries and 556 deaths.

The information can be accessed on https://delhifightscorona.in/beds too. In case a hospital has a vacant bed and refuses to admit a patient, the latter can dial the 1031 helpline number.
Cyclone Nisarga to hit Maharashtra: The western state which has been badly affected by the coronavirus is now bracing for another challenge, Cyclone Nisarga, which is expected to make landfall near Mumbai on Wednesday afternoon. Nearly 250 COVID-19 patients, who were staying at a state-run facility at the Bandra Kurla Complex, were shifted to a COVID centre in Worli, Mumbai, reported The Indian Express.
The cyclone comes at a come when the state has just started showing a dip in daily coronavirus cases, with an improvement in doubling rate for the infection. In the last 24 hours, Maharashtra reported 2,287 new cases, taking the state’s tally to 72,300 with 31,333 recoveries and 2,465 deaths.
Global corona update: Globally, the coronavirus tally is close to the 65 lakh-mark. Recoveries too have crossed the 30-lakh mark while 3,82,412 people have succumbed to the illness, according to the data shared by worldometer, a website that tracks COVID-19 numbers real-time. The virus has so far affected 213 countries.
Brazil continues to be the global hotspot for the infection with 5.58 lakh confirmed cases of coronavirus and 31,309 deaths. The US, which has been the worst-hit country by the virus, has recorded 18.81 lakh COVID-19 cases with 1.08 lakh deaths.
Story of hope: When Goa went into lockdown, 42-year-old Miriam Koshy-Sukhija decided to help stranded migrants and senior citizens with food packets, thinking the relief work could last two weeks or so. Weeks later, Koshy is still busy helping stranded workers; she has a got a team working with her now and they have set up a website to raise funds for the effort.
