While Delhi will decide on Tuesday if it has entered the community transmission level, World Health Organization chief said the situation is “worsening” globally and warned any country against taking its “foot off the pedal” now. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is in self-isolation at home after developing fever, has undergone tests for COVID-19 on Tuesday.

In Delhi, malls and places of worship saw people trickling in as they opened their doors to people on Monday after remaining shut for more than two months. In Kolkata, 50 per cent of the city’s eateries opened on Monday.
Delhi L-G reverses order on reserving hospitals: A day after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced that facilities at state-run and some private hospitals will be reserved for Delhi residents, Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal reversed the order on Monday. No patient will be denied treatment at a hospital for not being a Delhi resident, the LG’s order said, reported The Times of India.
The doubling rate for the infection in Delhi is 14 days and at this rate, the capital could see more than 56,000 COVID-19 cases by the next fortnight, said Delhi’s Health Minister Satyendar Jain. Delhi has reported 29,943 confirmed coronavirus cases so far; of these, 17,712 are active, 11,357 recoveries and 874 deaths.
Global corona update: Even as Brazil’s coronavirus count is going up at a breakneck speed—the country has 7.10 lakh confirmed cases so far—Mexico too is emerging as a global COVID-19 hotspot. The country reported nearly 3,000 fresh cases on Monday, taking the tally to 1.20 lakh.
According to worldometer, a website that tracks COVID-19 numbers globally, the number of confirmed cases is now at 71.98 lakh while 35.36 lakh have recovered and 4.08 lakh people succumbed to the infection or co-morbidities. The US has 20.26 confirmed coronavirus cases with 1.13 lakh deaths.
Story of hope: It was a double whammy for West Bengal when Cyclone Amphan hit the state even as it was reeling under a coronavirus-triggered lockdown. Kana Mondal, 40, knew her task had become more difficult now. A social entrepreneur, Mondal is the founder of Hasta Udyog, a handicraft micro-enterprise in the North 24 Parganas in West Bengal which trains and employs local women. On a visit to the Sunderbans after the cyclone, Mondal found many of these women were without a roof over their head. Not one to give up, Mondal is distributing ration, clothes and books for children to the cyclone-affected families in the Sunderbans. She has reached out to more than 2,500 families so far.
