With the Centre pushing for a gradual opening of the economy, several states on Monday announced a slew of steps to allow several activities to resume. Maharashtra, the ground zero for COVID-19 in India, has allowed markets and shops to reopen from 5 June, but on an odd-even basis. Tamil Nadu said buses will run with a reduced fleet but the ban on inter-state bus transport will remain. Punjab and Delhi have allowed barber shops and salons to resume business.

India cases and toll: India is well on course to hit the 2-lakh mark soon, with coronavirus case count now at nearly 1.99 lakh. On Tuesday morning, the data from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare shows 97,581 active cases, 95,526 recoveries and 5,598 deaths. A total of 8,171 fresh cases of coronavirus were reported in the last 24 hours. During the same period, 204 people died due to infection or co-morbidities. Of the total active cases, 6,414 cases are currently being reassigned to states.

Delhi unlock 1.0: The Delhi government on Monday said that it is scrapping the odd-even scheme for opening of shops, thereby allowing all shops to open at a time. For industrial units, the staggered timings have been withdrawn while barber shops and salons have been allowed to open although spas will continue to remain shut. More than one passenger can sit in an auto and e-rickshaw while motorists can have a pillion rider. However, the Delhi border has been sealed for a week, but movement of essential services will be allowed.

At 11,565 cases,the national capital’s active case count is among the highest in the country. Nearly 1,000 fresh cases were reported in the last 24 hours, taking Delhi’s total COVID-19 tally to 20,834.
