Films

Vicky Kaushal plays a soldier out for revenge in Uri: The Surgical Strike. Also starring Paresh Rawal and Yami Gautam, the film is based on true events—the attack on Uri in Jammu and Kashmir and theincidents that influenced the operation. The movie hits theatres on 11 January.

M. Night Shyamalan’s Unbreakable trilogy comes to a conclusion with Glass, which releases on 18 January. Starring Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson and James McAvoy, the film is about a security guard’spursuit of a cannibalistic psychopath, leading to a series of supernatural clashes set up by the nefarious Mister Glass.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui will portray Bal Thackeray in Thackeray, a biographical drama based on the life of the Shiv Sena founder. It has been produced by Shiv Sena politician Sanjay Raut and is set for a 25 January release.

 

Events

The 2019 Zee Jaipur Literature Festival (24 to 28 January), touted as the ‘greatest literary show’, will feature stalwarts from the fields of art and culture. India Art Fair, a platform for modern and contemporary South Asian art will be held between 31 January and 3 February in New Delhi.

Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai writes about travelling the world and visiting refugee camps in We Are Displaced (Hachette). Keigo Higashino’s crime thriller Newcomer (Hachette) features the second appearance (in English) of the Tokyo-based detective Kyochiro Kaga, after the critically acclaimed Malice. This time, he has to investigate a much more complicated murder case.

Kuldip Nayar recounts his experiences of meeting the men and women who shaped India pre- and post-Independence in On Leaders and Icons from Jinnah to Modi (Speaking Tiger), a colourful book of reminiscences.
