A translator and author, Arshia Sattar works with the story traditions of the subcontinent, particularly with Hindu epics and myths. Her works include translations of Valmiki's Ramayana and Somdeva's Kathasaritsagara, and children's books Kishkindha Tails and Pampa Sutra, among others. She obtained her doctorate in classical Indian languages from the University of Chicago and has been a Fulbright Scholar in Residence at Hampshire College in the U.S. and a Rockefeller Fellow at the Rockefeller Centre in Bellagio. Most recently her publications include Lost Loves: Exploring Rama’s Anguish (Penguin India, 2011) and the edited volume The Best of Quest (Westland Books, 2011). Her Mahabharata for Children was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Prize for Children's Literature in 2022.
