India cases and toll: India’s coronavirus tally crossed the 50-lakh mark on Wednesday morning. India is the second country after the US to record more than 50 lakh COVID-19 cases. In 11 days, India’s caseload increased from 40 lakh to 50 lakh.

A day after a slight dip in daily cases (83,809), India once again recorded more than 90,000 daily cases of coronavirus (90,123) between 8 am Tuesday and 8 am Wednesday, as per the data shared by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.  

Of the total 50,20,359 cases of coronavirus, 9,95,933 are active. So far, 39,42,360 people have recovered from the illness while 82,066 succumbed to it—a record 1,290 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. India conducted 11,16,842 tests for COVID-19 on Tuesday.

Where Delhi stands: The national capital recorded a spike in daily cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours. With 4,263 cases, Delhi’s COVID-19 tally rose to 2,25,796. The active cases have gone up to 29,787, nearly double of what the numbers were end of August. So far, 1,91,203 people have recovered from the disease while 4,806 succumbed to it. A total of 36 people lost their lives to COVID-19 on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a sero-survey conducted in the capital in the first week of August found that 79 of the 250 COVID-19 survivors did not have antibodies against the virus.
