Guidelines for Unlock 2.0: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Monday issued revised guidelines for Unlock 2.0, which will be effective from 1 July. Lockdown in containment zones will be extended up to 31 July. In areas outside containment zones, schools, colleges and coaching institutions will remain closed till 31 July. Metro services will not resume and cinema halls, gyms, swimming polls, assembly halls will continue to remain shut. Night curfew will remain between 10 pm and 5 am, except for essential services. The operation of domestic flights and passenger trains will be scaled up gradually.
India cases and toll: As of Tuesday morning, India’s total confirmed coronavirus case count stood at 5,66,840, according to the latest data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. India has 2,15,125 active cases and 3,34,821 recoveries. In the last 24 hours, the country added 18,522 fresh cases to its tally. On Monday, 418 people succumbed to the coronavirus infection, taking the death toll to 16,893. India conducted 2,10,292 tests for COVID-19 on Monday.
Shramik trains may stop running: The Shramik specials which have been ferrying migrant workers back to their home states could stop running soon. The reason: dip in demand. The Indian Express quoted an Indian Railways spokesperson as saying, “There was demand for just one train from Karnataka and that train is running today (Monday) from Bengaluru to Muzaffarpur. There is no demand for such trains tomorrow as well. We will run them if demand arises from states.” Since 1 May, 4,596 Shramik trains have been run to date.

Tamil Nadu extends lockdown till 31 July: Tamil Nadu government announced an extension of the lockdown across the state till 31 July. Chennai will continue to be under intense lockdown till 5 July. There will be complete lockdowns on Sundays. Tamil Nadu is back to the No. 2 spot in terms of total coronavirus cases reported in the state. In the last 24 hours, 3,949 new cases of coronavirus were reported across the state while 62 people succumbed to the infection. The state has reported 37,334 active cases, 47,749 recoveries and 1,141 deaths, taking the total count to 86,224.
How is Delhi faring: After last week’s daily high of nearly 4,000 cases, the national capital has managed to bring down the numbers. Delhi added 2,084 fresh cases of coronavirus to the tally and 57 deaths in the last 24 hours. With the ramping up of testing, Delhi’s positivity rate for the infection has also gone down, from 31 per cent in the second week of June to 18 per cent in the last week, reported The Indian Express. Positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive for COVID-19 out of the total tests conducted.
Global corona update: The global COVID-19 count now stands at 1,04,12,421 confirmed cases with 56,68,668 recoveries and 5,08,228 deaths. The US, which is recording a huge surge on a daily basis, has 26,81,811 total confirmed cases of coronavirus with 1,28,783 people losing their lives to the infection, according to worldometer, a website that tracks COVID-19 numbers. Brazil, which is second worst-hit country by the virus, has reported 13,70,488 cases of coronavirus so far with 58,385 deaths.
