COVID-19 recoveries in the country have also gone past the 50-lakh mark. The total fatalities have reached 95,542

India cases and toll: India’s coronavirus tally has crossed the 60 lakh- or 6 million-mark, the second country to achieve the grim milestone after the US. The country reported 82,170 fresh cases and 1,039 deaths in 24 hours, from 8 am Sunday to 8 am Monday, as per the data available on the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare website.

The recoveries have crossed the 50 lakh- or 5 million-mark. There are currently 9,62,640 active cases while 50,16,520 people have recovered from the disease and 95,542 succumbed to it. In line with the trend witnessed on most Sundays, the number of COVID-19 tests dropped this weekend too. A total of 7,09,394 tests were conducted on Sunday.

India far from achieving herd immunity: Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Sunday said that the early indications from the second national sero-survey show that India is far from achieving “any kind of herd immunity”. The minister, who was interacting with his social media followers, cautioned people against letting their guard down and not following the precautions necessary to fight COVID-19.

Global corona update: The global coronavirus count has climbed to 3,33,07,178 with 76,66,595 active cases, 2,46,38,184 recoveries and 10,02,399 deaths, as per Worldometer. Of the total active cases, 64,996 are in serious or critical condition.
