India cases and toll: India’s coronavirus tally has crossed the 60 lakh- or 6 million-mark, the second country to achieve the grim milestone after the US. The country reported 82,170 fresh cases and 1,039 deaths in 24 hours, from 8 am Sunday to 8 am Monday, as per the data available on the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare website.
The recoveries have crossed the 50 lakh- or 5 million-mark. There are currently 9,62,640 active cases while 50,16,520 people have recovered from the disease and 95,542 succumbed to it. In line with the trend witnessed on most Sundays, the number of COVID-19 tests dropped this weekend too. A total of 7,09,394 tests were conducted on Sunday.

The minister, who was interacting with his social media followers, cautioned people against letting their guard down and not following the precautions necessary to fight COVID-19.

A story of hope: The pandemic-triggered lockdown has exposed the huge learning divide between rural and urban areas across the country. In the tiny Wailwada village in Karwar tehsil of Karnataka, several school students were finding it difficult to attend online classes due to lack of internet connectivity.
Help came from Sagar Naik, a final year college student, who decided to get an internet connection from a private player and shared the password with the students in distress so that they could attend their classes, reported The New Indian Express. Setting up the connection, however, was no easy task. Long cables lines, up to a kilometre, were drawn to ensure Naik’s house gets connectivity.
Villagers have now requested the district administration to provide internet facility. Till that happens, the open internet connection at Naik’s house can help the students tide over these difficult times.
