India cases and toll: India’s coronavirus count rose to 8,78,254 on Monday morning, according to the latest data shared by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). The active cases have crossed the 3-lakh mark and have climbed to 3,01,609 while the recoveries stand at 5,53,470. In the biggest one-day jump in numbers, India reported 28,701 fresh cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours. During the same time, 500 people lost their lives to the virus, taking the COVID-19 toll to 23,174 deaths. A total of 2,19,103 people were tested for coronavirus infection on Sunday.

Russia finishes trials for world’s first COVID-19 vaccine: According to various news reports, the Center for Clinical Research on Medications at Sechenov University in Russia has successfully completed the clinical trials of a COVID-19 vaccine on humans. The vaccine is developed by Gamalei Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology. Russia has recorded more than 7 lakh cases of coronavirus and over 11,000 deaths.

How is Maharashtra faring: Maharashtra added 7,837 fresh cases of coronavirus and 173 deaths in the last 24 hours. With this, the state’s COVID-19 tally has climbed to 2,54,427 cases with 10,289 deaths. The state currently has 1,03,813 active cases of the disease even as 1,40,325 people have recovered. Mumbai recorded 1,243 new cases on Sunday, taking the city’s COVID-19 tally to 92,988. Actor Amitabh Bachchan and his family have tested positive for the infection, including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and their daughter Aaradhya.
