India cases and toll: On Tuesday morning, India’s coronavirus tally stood at 4,40,215 cases. Against 1,78,014 active cases, 2,48,189 people have recovered from the illness, according to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Another 14,011 people have succumbed to the infection. India added 14,933 new cases of coronavirus disease in the last 24 hours while 312 deaths were reported during the same period. A total of 1,87,223 COVID-19 tests were conducted on Monday.
Delhi’s growing coronavirus numbers: After Maharashtra, Delhi now has the most confirmed cases of coronavirus in the country. The total count stood at 62,655 coronavirus cases on Tuesday morning, of which 23,820 are active cases, 36,602 recoveries and 2,233 deaths. The national capital reported 2,909 fresh cases of coronavirus and 58 deaths in the last 24 hours.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said that patients in home quarantine will be provided oximeters to monitor oxygen levels. COVID-19 cases spike in Andhra Pradesh: Even as Tamil Nadu continues to grab headlines for being the third worst-hit state by the coronavirus in the country, another southern state, Andhra Pradesh, too has been witnessing a steady rise in the number of cases. At 9,372 total cases of coronavirus disease, the state is inching towards the 10,000-mark. The number of active cases is 4,766 while 4,495 people have recovered and 111 have lost the fight against the deadly virus.The growth rate for the infection in Andhra Pradesh is among the highest in the country along with Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Haryana and Telangana, according to The Indian Express report.
Rath Yatra in Puri gets court nod: The annual rath yatra in Puri, Odisha, kicked off on Tuesday after the Supreme Court gave its nod with certain restrictions including a curfew and closing of all entry points to the temple city. In other words, the yatra will be conducted with minimum attendance. The Supreme Court on Monday set aside its earlier 18 June order that had stopped the rath yatra in order to prevent overcrowding and risk of infection. Odisha has reported 5,303 confirmed coronavirus cases so far, with 1,425 active cases, 3,863 recoveries and 15 deaths.
Global corona update: The global coronavirus tally has surged to 91,92,712 cases. Of these, 37,78,885 are active cases, 49,39,382 recoveries and 4,74,445 deaths, according to worldometer, a website that tracks COVID-19 cases globally. While the US leads with 23,88,153 total confirmed coronavirus cases and 1,22,610 deaths, it is followed by Brazil with 11,11,348 cases and 51,407 deaths and Russia with 5,92,280 cases and 8,206 deaths. India is currently the fourth worst-hit country by the virus in terms of total COVID-19 cases.
