India cases and toll: India recorded 56,282 cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, a jump from 52,509 the previous day. India’s COVID-19 count has climbed to 19,64,536 with 5,95,501 active cases and 13,28,336 recoveries. The death toll has moved up to 40,699 with 904 people succumbing to the disease in the last 24 hours. India conducted 6,64,949 tests for COVID-19 on Wednesday.

Check the urge to party, says WHO: The World Health Organization, on Wednesday, asked youngsters to check the urge to party so that new outbreaks of COVID-19 can be prevented, reported Reuters. “Younger people also need to take on board that they have a responsibility. Ask yourself the question: Do I really need to go to that party?” said Mike Ryan, emergencies chief, WHO. As per WHO data, the number of people in the 15–24 age group getting infected with the virus has grown three-fold.

Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh biggest contributors: Maharashtra recorded its highest daily COVID-19 toll on Wednesday as 334 people succumbed to the disease. The state added 10,309 coronavirus cases to its tally, which has now climbed to 4,68,265. The state has 1,46,268 active cases of coronavirus while 3,05,521 people have recovered from the illness.

Andhra Pradesh too recorded more than 10,000 coronavirus cases on Wednesday. With 10,128 cases in the last 24 hours, the state’s coronavirus tally rose to 1,86,461. In the last 24 hours, 77 people lost their lives to the virus, taking the state’s toll to 1,681.
