India’s coronavirus tally has surged past the 33-lakh mark. With 1,023 fatalities in the last 24 hours, the country’s COVID-19 toll has reached 60,472

India cases and toll: In a record surge in daily cases, India reported 75,760 cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours. With this, India’s COVID-19 tally rose to 33,10,234, according to the latest data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).

In another grim milestone, India’s coronavirus death toll moved past the 60,000-mark with 1,023 fatalities in the last 24 hours. The country currently has 7,25,991 active cases while 25,23,771 have recovered from the disease and 60,472 succumbed to it. India conducted 9,24,998 tests for COVID-19 on Wednesday.

Health Ministry guidelines for TB-COVID screening: The MoHFW on Wednesday issued guidelines for bidirectional Tuberculosis-COVID screening. “Studies have shown that history of active as well as latent TB is an important risk factor for SARS-CoV-2 infection,” said the Health Ministry notification.    

As per the guidelines, all newly diagnosed TB patients or those currently on treatment should be tested for COVID-19, and even after COVID-19 diagnosis, the treatment for TB should continue uninterrupted.

Likewise, all COVID-19 cases should be screened for TB symptoms using the 4-symptom complex (cough for more than two weeks, persistent fever for more than two weeks, significant weight loss and night sweats), history of contact with a TB case or history of TB. “All COVID-positive TB patients will be admitted to a dedicated COVID Care Centre/dedicated COVID Health Centre/dedicated COVID Hospital (level as per severity), if required,” the guidelines said.
