With this, the COVID-19 toll has surged to 23,727 deaths. On Monday, 2,86,247 people were tested for the infection across the country.

Week-long lockdown begins in Bengaluru: In a bid to check the rising number of infections in Bengaluru, both urban and rural districts will be under lockdown till 22 July. Bengaluru has 15,052 active cases of coronavirus—1,315 fresh cases were recorded on Monday—while 322 people have succumbed to the disease.

How Delhi, Mumbai are faring: Mumbai, the financial nerve-centre of the country, recorded 1,158 fresh cases of coronavirus and 47 deaths on Monday. With this, the Maximum City’s case tally stands at 94,146 with 5,335 deaths. Dharavi, which was once a hotbed of the infection, has managed to contain the outbreak with WHO acknowledging the containment measures. Maharashtra has, so far, recorded 2,60,924 cases of coronavirus with 6,497 in the last 24 hours. The state’s COVID-19 toll has climbed to 10,482.
Delhi, which till a few weeks ago had almost earned itself the tag of ‘corona capital’, has recorded 1,246 fresh cases of coronavirus on Monday, the lowest for the capital in over a month. According to figures shared by Delhi's health department, the recovery rate in the capital is now above 80 per cent which is higher than the national average of nearly 63 per cent. Delhi currently has 19,017 active cases of coronavirus while 91,312 people have recovered from the illness. A total of 3,411 people have died due to the infection in Delhi.
Global corona update: The COVID-19 global tally has climbed to 1,32,40,715 cases with 77,07,191 recoveries and 5,75,601 deaths, according to Worldometer, a website that tracks the numbers worldwide. Even as the US, with 34,79,483 cases, and Brazil, with 18,87,959 cases, continue to top the global table, Peru, Chile and Mexico are adding fresh cases of the infection at an alarming rate. They have made it to the list of top 10 worst-affected countries by the coronavirus pandemic. Peru's confirmed COVID-19 count is at 3,30,123 with 12,054 deaths while Chile has recorded 3,17,657 cases with 7,024 deaths. Mexico has recorded 3,04,435 cases of coronavirus and 35,491 deaths.
