India cases and toll: India’s coronavirus count crossed the 20-lakh mark on Friday morning with 62,538 cases in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day spike. As per the data shared by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the country has so far reported 20,27,074 cases of coronavirus with 13,78,105 recoveries and 41,585 deaths—886 people succumbed to the disease on Thursday. India has 6,07,384 active cases of coronavirus with the infection growing at a rate of 3.1 per cent. In three weeks, India’s caseload climbed from 10 lakh to over 20 lakh. A total of 6,39,042 tests for COVID-19 were conducted across the country on Thursday.

Where Delhi stands: The national capital, which has registered a steady decline in COVID-19 infections, recorded 1,299 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. Delhi’s coronavirus tally stands at 1,41,531 with 10,348 active cases, 1,27,124 recoveries and 4,059 deaths. According a report by The Indian Express, nine out of 10 beds in seven COVID-only government hospitals are vacant. On Thursday, the Delhi government sent a revised proposal to L-G Anil Baijal to allow hotels, gyms and weekly markets to reopen.
