In the last 24 hours, 1,085 people have succumbed to the disease across the country—the fatality rate stands at 1.59 per cent while the recovery rate has improved to 81.25 per cent. On Tuesday, a total of 9,53,683 tests for COVID-19 were conducted across India.
At least 50 per cent efficacy must for COVID-19 vaccine: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Tuesday said that the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccine could be anywhere between 50 and 100 per cent. “100 per cent efficacy is not achieved in vaccines for respiratory viruses,” said ICMR chief Dr Balram Bhargava at a press briefing.
The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) has also recently issued draft guidelines for experimental COVID-19 vaccines in India. The guidelines have listed various safety protocols including a 50 per cent efficacy in clinical trials.

With 3,816 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, Delhi’s coronavirus count has climbed to 2,53,075. The national capital currently has 31,623 active cases while 2,16,401 people have recovered from the disease. Thirty-seven people died in Delhi due to COVID-19 on Tuesday, taking the overall toll to 5,051.
Global corona update: The global coronavirus tally has gone up to 3,17,83,676 with 74,07,408 active cases, 2,34,00,797 recoveries and 9,75,471 deaths, as per Worldometer. Of the currently infected patients, 62,083 are in serious or critical condition.
Meanwhile, World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at a virtual media briefing on Tuesday said that there is no “guarantee that any vaccine in development will work”, reported Hindustan Times. “The more candidates we test, the higher the chance we will have for a safe and efficacious vaccine,” he said.

The yet-to-be-published study, which analyzed the coronavirus outbreak in Brazil, found that regions that reported slower growth of COVID-19 infections had witnessed major dengue outbreaks in the recent past.
