India recorded more than 67,000 cases of coronavirus and 1,059 deaths in the last 24 hours. The country’s tally has crossed the 32-lakh mark

India cases and toll: With 67,151 new cases in the last 24 hours, India’s coronavirus tally rose to 32,34,474 on Wednesday morning, according to the data shared by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. A day after recording 60,975 cases, India’s daily case tally has again surged past the 65,000-mark.

The country’s COVID-19 death toll has climbed to 59,449 with 1,059 deaths in the last 24 hours. India currently has 7,07,267 active cases of coronavirus while 24,67,758 have recovered from the illness. A total of 8,23,992 COVID-19 tests were conducted across the country on Tuesday.

COVID-19 reinfection reported in India and abroad: In Telangana, two medical professionals have tested positive for COVID-19 again after recovering from the illness earlier. One such case has been reported in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, too.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong reported the world’s first confirmed case of coronavirus reinfection this week. According to the researchers at the University of Hong Kong, the 33-year-old man was infected by a different strain of virus this time.   

Serum Institute begins clinical trials of Oxford University's vaccine in India: Serum Institute of India, which will manufacture the Oxford University-AstraZeneca’s experimental vaccine for low- and middle-income countries, on Tuesday, started the process of clinical trials with the first batch of patients being screened for the vaccine. The early-stage trial results of the vaccine, published in The Lancet last month, were promising and suggested the vaccine was safe.
