The COVID-19 death toll has surged to 34,193 with 768 people losing their lives to the virus in the last 24 hours  

India cases and toll: India crossed the 15-lakh mark with 48,513 fresh cases of coronavirus reported in the last 24 hours. The coronavirus tally has climbed to 15,31,669 with 5,09,447 active cases, 9,88,029 recoveries and 34,193 deaths, as per the latest data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. In the highest single-day spike in deaths, 768 people succumbed to the disease on Tuesday. A total of 4,08,855 tests for COVID-19 were conducted across the country on Tuesday, compared to 5,28,082 tests the previous day.

Southern states remain cause of concern: Andhra Pradesh’s coronavirus tally is surging—the state recorded 7,948 fresh cases on Tuesday, the highest among all states including Maharashtra, which added 7,717 new cases to its tally. Andhra Pradesh has 51,701 active cases, while 49,558 people have recovered from the illness and 1,090 have succumbed. The state’s coronavirus count stands at 1,10,297.

Tamil Nadu and Karnataka recorded 6,972 and 5,536 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, respectively. While Tamil Nadu’s COVID-19 tally has climbed to 2,27,688, Karnataka’s count has surged to 1,07,001.
