On the bright side, India’s recovery rate seems to be improving steadily and now stands at 51.08 per cent. While big cities continue to battle the pandemic, states like Rajasthan, Punjab and Kerala have managed to slow down the spread of the infection.

All-party meet to assess Delhi’s COVID-19 surge: Home Minister Amit Shah at an all-party meeting in Delhi to discuss the sharp rise in coronavirus cases in the national capital said that the number of tests per day will go up to 18,000 over the next days. This meeting was attended by representatives from the Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party.
On Sunday, Shah had held a meeting with Delhi L-G Anil Baijal, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, following which it was announced that testing in the capital would be tripled in six days while 500 railway coaches would be turned into care centres. Delhi currently has 24,032 active cases while 15,823 people have recovered and 1,327 have succumbed to the disease. The capital’s total COVID-19 count stands at 41,182.

How is Maharashtra faring? Maharashtra has become the first state in the country to cross the 1 lakh-mark for total confirmed coronavirus cases. At nearly 1.08 lakh cases, Maharashtra has 53,030 active cases, 50,978 recoveries and 3,950 deaths. The state recorded 3,390 fresh cases of coronavirus on Sunday while 120 deaths were also reported in the last 24 hours.
Mumbai, with 58,226 confirmed cases of coronavirus so far, saw nearly 1,400 fresh cases and 69 deaths in the last 24 hours. The local trains in the city will resume operations, albeit partially, after a three-month-long break. Central and Western Railway will run trains on select routes for essential staff. To maintain social distancing, 700 passengers will be allowed per train as against the usual seating capacity for 1,200.
COVID-19 cases to peak in India by November? A study funded by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) projects COVID-19 cases will peak in the country by mid-November. The study, done by researchers from an Operations Research Group formed by the ICMR, claims that the two-month lockdown shifted the pandemic's peak by 34-76 days, reported PTI. The study, which has not been peer reviewed, also projects a shortage of ICU beds and ventilators when India hits the peak.
Global corona update: The global coronavirus count stands at 79.90 lakh cases with 41.08 recoveries and 4.35 lakh deaths. The US continues to top the table with 21.62 lakh confirmed coronavirus cases and 1.17 lakh cases. Brazil, the second worst-hit country by the virus, now has 8.67 lakh cases and 43,389 deaths.
China reported 49 new coronavirus cases on Monday with 36 in capital Beijing. With fears of a fresh wave of infections, Beijing has started mass testing of people at a wholesale food market from where a cluster of cases were reported.
