India cases and toll: India reported 75,083 cases of coronavirus in 24 hours, between 8 am Monday and 8 am Tuesday. This is a significant drop compared to 86,961 cases recorded the previous day and 92,605 cases the day before. A total of 1,053 people succumbed to the disease across the country in the last 24 hours.

India’s coronavirus tally now stands at 55,62,663, which includes 9,75,861 active cases, 44,97,867 recoveries and 88,935 fatalities, as per the data shared by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. India conducted 9,33,185 tests for COVID-19 on Monday.

How is Delhi faring: There has been an uptick in the daily cases of coronavirus in the national capital all through September. After reporting nearly or over 4,000 cases for the last several days, Delhi reported 2,548 cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours. The drop is in sync with the overall drop in daily cases across the country.

In most private hospitals in Delhi, ICU beds have been occupied. Delhi health minister Satyendar Jain on Monday, however, said that 1,000 ICU beds are still available in COVID-designated hospitals and facilities across the capital.

Global corona update: The global coronavirus tally continues to surge as the infection has managed to spread to nearly all the countries now. The global COVID-19 caseload is 3,14,85,162 with 74,02,631 active cases, 2,31,13,233 recoveries and 9,69,298 deaths, according to Worldometer. Among the active cases, 61,832 are serious or critical.

The US is leading the global count with 70,46,216 cases of coronavirus, including 2,04,506 deaths. Brazil, which has been displaced by India as the second worst-hit country by the pandemic, has recorded 45,60,083 COVID-19 cases and 1,37,350 deaths.

Several European countries like France, Spain and the UK are reporting a resurgence of COVID-19. In Spain, for instance, capital city Madrid is the worst-affected region in the country. In UK, people will have to pay a fine of up to $13,000 if they refuse to self-isolate on testing positive for COVID-19.

Story of hope: The coronavirus pandemic has affected millions of livelihood and claimed countless lives. But amid all the gloom, stories of hope have also stood out. In Maharashtra’s Thane district, a 106-year-old woman defeated COVID-19 and was discharged from the hospital on Sunday.

A resident of Dombivli, the centenarian was admitted to a COVID-19 facility set up by the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation after several hospitals refused to admit her, the survivor’s daughter-in-law told PTI. After a 10-day stay at the facility, the centenarian was all smiles while displaying her discharge certificate to everyone.
